MEMENTO TO ENJOY THE PRESENT
The Concept:
In today’s world, we are exposed to far too many distractions. This manifests in many of the superfluous features found in today’s watches. Particularly with ‘smart’ watches. These features often pull us away from whats most important to us. Distracting us from truly appreciating and enjoying the present moment. As a reminder to stay in the present moment. Adesse omits the superfluous and shows just enough to tell the time.
Adesse reimagines the traditional analog watch with minimalist principles, and questions what is absolutely necessary to tell the time.

Do we really need to see numerical indicators?
What about the crown?
The second hand?
The minute hand?
The hour hand?
DESIGNED THROUGH SUBTRACTION
The Design Process:
Clean
Traditional watch features are removed – numeral indices, watch hands, and protruding lugs – leaving a blank canvas. The crown is relocated to the underside of the watch, giving the watch the perfect circular silhouette.
Carve
An architecturally inspired sculptural piece is then carved out to form the watch face that rotates with time.
Score
Flowing with the idea of designing through subtraction rather than addition, the interior edges of the case are scored to indicate the hours and quarters (15 minutes).
Taper
The case is tapered to enhance elegance while maintaining structural integrity. Excess bulk is carved from the bottom of the watch, forming an elegant connection between the case and the wrist strap.
The arch forms an elegant connection between the lug and the case. It also creates the illusion of the watch hovering above the wrist.
CARVING OUT TIME
How Time Is Revealed:
A memento to enjoy the present
As time progresses throughout the day, most of the quarter markers become hidden by the rotating sculptural face. The only quarter markers that are fully revealed are the ones that are relevant to that hour acting as a memento to enjoy the present. In the example above, only the quarter markers between 11:00 - 12:00 are completely revealed.
Showing just enough to tell the time
Adesse reads like a one hand watch. From a bird’s eye view, one can only see the hour markers, as they are scored deeper, wider, and taller than the quarter markers in the case interior. It is only from a side-on view that the quarter markings (15min, 30min, 45min) between each hour are revealed.
Addesse is a renaissance subdial - Its serene and seamless shadow pirouette allows no distractions, inviting you to enjoy the present moment.
